Tony Bennett Pushes for Legalization of Drugs

In the wake of Whitney Houston's death, most celebrities are reacting with nothing but condolences and kind words about the iconic singer. Some, however, are speaking out in more detail, with Celine Dion telling Good Morning America today that the celebrity culture itself bears some responsibility for Whitney's demise. Tony Bennett, meanwhile, has taken a different, surprising tact. At Clive Davis' annual Grammy Awards party, held just hours after Houston passed away, the legendary artist went off on a different topic. "First it was Michael Jackson, then Amy Winehouse, now, the magnificent Whitney Houston," he said. "I'd like every person in this room to campaign to legalize drugs. Let's legalize drugs like they did in Amsterdam. No one's hiding or sneaking around corners to get it. They go to a doctor to get it." Not sure if that would have saved any of the aforementioned lives, but it's always an interesting debate. Where do you stand? Should America legalize drugs?

Whitney Houston Cause of Death: Prescription Drugs and Alcohol, Family Told

The official results of an autopsy performed on Whitney Houston yesterday will not be released for weeks. But sources tell TMZ the family of this legend has been informed by the coroner's office that Houston died from a lethal mixture of prescription pills, most notably Xanax, and alcohol. As previously confirmed, Houston was found unresponsive in her hotel room bathtub on Saturday afternoon and new reports identity the singer's aunt, Mary Jones, as the individual who found her there and administered CPR on the bathroom floor. However, officials have told the family Whitney likely died prior to being submerged, as there was not enough water in the artist's lungs to cite drowning as the cause of death. At last night's Grammy Awards, meanwhile, host LL Cool J led the audience in a prayer for Houston, while Jennifer Hudson later paid emotional tribute to the icon via a rendition of "I Will Always Love You."

Heather Locklear Hospitalized for Suspected Mix of Drugs, Alcohol

Heather Locklear was rushed to the hospital around 2 p.m. local time today, after authorities responded to a call from her sister in Los Angeles, who feared the actress was in danger. Law enforcement officials tell TMZ they believe Locklear took a mixture of prescription drugs and alcohol, as paramedics on the scene decided she needed medical attention. "Emergency response personnel responded to a medical emergency call at Ms. Locklear's residence," confirmed Ventura County Sheriff's Capt. Mike Aranda to People. "Once they arrived, it was determined that Ms. Locklear needed to be transported to the hospital for further medical attention." Locklear, who called off her engagement to Jack Wagner late last year, was just spotted Tuesday night with a friend at the Lakers game. [Photo: WENN.com]

Toddlers and Tiaras aired another episode last night. Unfortunately. The latest installment is sure to ruffle the feathers of child advocates (and all sane people really) thanks to Natalie's mom. Wow, is that woman a piece of work. The setting is Lansing, Michigan. A quiet, hard-working city in the Upper Midwest, perhaps best known for THE Michigan State University in its eastern suburb. Natalie's mom apparently wants to change that by making her little girl a star. She admits that basically, pageants are like crack. You get hooked. Hard. Toddlers & Tiaras Clips Kelly actually seemed like a fairly normal, albeit overconfident, parent at the start. Until she wasn't. Some people take drugs, she enters Nat in pageants. Makes total sense. Until like every addict, they can't get their fix and absolutely flip out. Honestly, where does TLC find these nut jobs week after week? Last night's episode also featured Cadence and her sassy pageant grandma, and a two-year-old named Samara whose mother is tattooed rocker chick. Call ...

Casey Anthony: Unemployed, Not on Drugs

Casey Anthony told her probation officer this week that she is unemployed, but hasn't used any illegal drugs, according to a report released by authorities. The 25-year-old reported to her probation officer at an undisclosed location in Florida, saying she has had no source of income during the past 30 days. Her probation order requires her to "work diligently at a lawful occupation," but being jobless doesn't necessarily put Anthony in violation of her probation. Casey was acquitted in July on charges of murdering her daughter, Caylee. Thousands of other probationers are without jobs, given Florida's 10.7 percent unemployment rate, not to mention many, many other law-abiding citizens. Interestingly, the probation report said she had not attended mental health or therapy programs in the past month, or educational or vocational classes. What the heck is she doing then? Former party girl Anthony also told the probation officer that she has not used any illegal drugs and that she has consumed alcohol but not to excess. She currently is ...

Russell Armstrong Coroner Report: No Drugs in System

With an autopsy already having confirmed that Russell Armstrong died by hanging, Los Angeles County Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter added to that report today by providing the results of toxicology tests run on the late reality star. And he confirms that no drugs or alcohol were in Russell's system at the time of his death. The body of Taylor Armstrong's husband, from whom she had filed for divorce in July, was discovered hanging from an apartment ceiling on August 15. Despite no evidence to back up their claim, family members now apparently believe Russell was murdered (in relation to his ongoing financial struggles) and are considering the hiring of a private investigator.
